Census: American Dream of Home Ownership May Be Gone for Good

Homeownership  “A Mother’s Legacy”

Hello my name is Trina Parham and I am a single mother of two that graduated from Chesaning High School in 1994. I took computer classes at Delta College University. I received my Certified Nursing Assistant certificate (CNA) through Grand Rapids job corps and I worked as a pharmacy technician at Rite Aide Pharmacy. I am currently taking classes online for insurance medical coding and billing.

I am so grateful to Safe Haven House for the opportunity to own my home through their homeownership project. I am proud to say that I have a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a nice size back yard. This a really big house! I never owned a home before but now I can say that I own my home. I have a home to leave my two boys now. We plan to keep this home in the family. It feels good to cut our own grass. I can paint and remodel my home the way that I want it. I thank God for giving us this home and for peace, comfort, love and a clear mind.

As a single mother it has not been easy and at times I get tired but wanting more for my children keeps me going. I have always strived to achieve my dreams in life. One of my dreams was being able to leave a home for my children and now that dream has been fulfilled.

Homeownership  “A Dream Come True”

For my own safety and peace of mind I left an abusive relationship. When I was in that relationship I felt trapped and controlled thinking there was no way out. I finally made a decision to leave for good and since then I have been trying to get my life settled for myself and children.

My name is Debra Ellis I was born and raised in Saginaw Michigan. I am a single mother that graduated from Bridgeport High school. I took some computer classes at Delta College University and I received a certificate of training from Ross medical school as a Medical Dental Administrative.

    My children are my life…,

My son Josh likes to play video games and he is very athletic. He likes basketball and football. My daughter. Jessie is the artist in the family. She is very creative.
My daughter Daniel is 15 and she is an avid reader and my grand daughter is a joy.

They are typical kids and I am so thankful to be able to provide a “family” home for all of my children. Mother’s are always concerned about their children and now I can leave them a home thanks to the Safe Haven House Homeownership project. My children now have a place where they can always come home too. I thought I would be stuck renting and at the mercy of landlords for the rest of my life. Owning my own home is a dream come true. It feels fabulous! I am living the American dream, I am a home owner.
